Anna Meeusen lives up to favorite status on the Rijselstraat
Anna Meeusen dominated the Women's U17 Gent-Wevelgem In Flanders Fields. After the Kemmelberg, she broke away with teammate Reyniers in a group of five. Meeusen executed the perfect sprint, with Reyniers and Charlesworth completing the podium.
At 15:40, the Women’s U17 peloton rolled out. Under sunny skies, they tackled a 46.2 km route featuring the classic trio of Scherpenberg – Monteberg – Kemmelberg (Belvedère side).
The first selection came on the Kemmelberg. After the steep cobbled climb, a group of five riders — including Meeusen and Knox — saw their opportunity and broke clear. With 18 km to go, they gained a lead of 20 seconds. Behind them, a group of eight riders tried to bridge the gap to the front.
The pace dropped in the chasing group, allowing a few riders to rejoin. Meanwhile, the leaders extended their advantage and prepared for a five-up sprint. Meeusen launched from the front and never gave up her lead. Reyniers made it a 1–2 finish for Van Moer Logistics Cycling Team, with Charlesworth securing third place.
